New Year’s Resolutions for Senior Living Residents

Is your loved one new to Hillside Terrace?

Is your parent a bit shy when it comes to participating in community events?

Is your loved one a bit of a loner when it comes to interacting with new people?

A new year, new you! Here are some ways to help you embrace change as the new kid at Hillside Terrace:

1.     Embrace new things – Encourage your loved one to try new hobbies and activities. There are plenty of opportunities to socialize throughout the day at Hillside Terrace. You might be surprised to discover a new hobby or friend for life.

2.     Foster new relationships – Remind your loved one that other residents are probably just as reluctant to join activities. Encourage your loved one to say “Hi” and introduce themselves to people when they have an activity.

3.     Find a workout buddy – From walking trips to daily exercise, Hillside Terrace has a combination of activities to keep your loved one active.

We always have fun activities going on daily for our residents, including Casino outings, trips to the Ann Arbor library and more! It’s a good idea to accompany your loved one on some activities that are of interest to them until they feel comfortable.

Encouraging Your Loved One to Connect with the Hillside Community

assisted living in Ann Arbor

A good new year’s resolution is to encourage your loved one to engage more with the community and its residents. It can be hard to essentially be the new kid in school, and it’s good to foster new connections as they start their new journey.

With a little persuasiveness you might help your loved one connect with new neighbors by:

1.     Embrace new things

2.     Foster new relationships

3.     Find a workout buddy

4.     Review the activities calendar together

If your loved one is still struggling to feel a part of the Hillside Terrace community, please let our staff know. We have experience helping our residents adjust to this new way of living.
